The origin of the initiative

Initially, the idea was to acquire books written and studied by Bolzano, as well as books related to him and his context, in order to carry out the project’s research and, in doing so, to make material that was hitherto in the possession of antiquarians available to the public through the library.

This, however, led to the development of the proposal to establish the collection by merging the donations received by the project and its acquisitions with the books related to Bolzano that were already part of the library’s holdings.

People behind its materialisation

The unfailing support of Petr Kitzler (current director of the Institute), Ondřej Ševeček (former director of the Institute), Simona Chlumská (head of the Institute’s library), all the library staff (Antonín Šíma, Petra Mrázková, Věra Klimová, Jana Čechová and Zuzana Tichá) and Steve Russ was crucial to the materialisation of the Bernard Bolzano Collection.

The collection has also received generous support from Otto Neumaier, as well as from the publishing house Frommann-Holzboog, which is responsible for the Bernard Bolzano–Gesamtausgabe.
