We are delighted to announce that, after half a year of formal negotiations with the Muzeum literatury / Památník národního písemnictví for the digitisation of Bolzano’s written estate kept in their care, we have reached an agreement that will allow us to preserve such a cultural heritage and make it available in open access through the Bolzano Digital Archive that we are building.
Negotiations have covered the revision and cataloguing of the items to be digitised, the quality and format of the images, the transfer of data and metadata, licensing and attribution statement, and the periodicity of the delivery of the nearly 36,000 digitisations. The process is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026 at the latest, after which the digital archive will be launched.
For the Muzeum literatury, the person responsible will be Tomáš Pavlíček (head of the literary archive of the Muzeum literatury), while the person responsible for PragMatika will be Elías, who will supervise the work of Daniel and Petra in examining the manuscripts and documents and their catalogue, as well as in capturing the descriptive metadata, as well as the transfer and storage of data and metadata carried out by Jakub.
The signing of the agreement has been made possible thanks to a number of people, starting with Petr Kitzler (director of the Institute of Philosophy AV ČR), Michal Stehlík (director of the Muzeum literatury) and Tomáš Pavlíček, whose trust and support have been essential in bringing it to fruition. In addition, the unfailing support of all the people at the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR) and Christian Tapp has been crucial, as well as the legal advice on CC licences from Lucie Smolka and the support of various members of the Institute, in particular the grants and economic departments.
