Hosted by PragMatika, José Ferreirós, an eminent philosopher and historian of mathematics, will spend two months at the Institute of Philosophy AV ČR. During this time, he and Elías will work on plans for joint publications and events, as well as other projects. In addition, he will conduct research on his current research project, which concerns the interplay between cognitive and hypothetical elements in scientific knowledge, and will work on a book project addressing with issues in the philosophy of mathematics.
José Ferreirós is professor of logic and philosophy of science at the University of Seville, where he is the PI of the research group History and Philosophy of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. He is also one of the founders of the Association for the Philosophy of Mathematical Practice and his publications include Labyrinth of Thought: A History of Set Theory and Its Role in Modern Mathematics (Birkhäuser, 1999/2007), The Architecture of Modern Mathematics: Essays in History and Philosophy (co-edited with Jeremy Gray; Oxford University Press, 2006) and Mathematical knowledge and the interplay of practices (Princeton University Press, 2016).
