What are cookies and how we use them


Cookies are small text files that can be used by websites to make a User’s experience more efficient. We use cookies and other similar technologies like beacons, pixel tags, scripts etc. (hereinafter “Cookies”) on our website to ensure that it works properly and to understand how it is visited and used, so that we have insights into the User’s interactions and we can improve the User’s overall experience.

Our website uses these types of Cookies:

  1. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of our websites, such as technically delivering content, setting the User’s privacy preferences, logging in (within the Bolzano Digital Archive) or filling in forms. Without these Cookies, our website cannot operate so it is not possible to reject them.
  2. Optional Cookies are not essential for the operation of our website and may serve to various purposes as stated below. The User can always modify the User’s preferences and withdraw the User’s consent through cookie banner by using the cookie settings link in the footer of the website. The cookie banner will display again and enable to adjust the User’s previous choice, even for a certain type of purpose.


Some of these Cookies are set directly by PragMatika or by a third party on our behalf. Other Cookies may be set by a third party, such as the advertising and targeting cookies. The User can find a list of our and third party Cookies in the cookie table below for each relevant purpose. While we do our best to keep this table updated, please note that the number and type of Cookies used may change from time to time.

Purposes of processing

Functional (essential)

These Cookies are essential, without them our site would not function properly. In addition to displaying the site correctly, they mainly help us to ensure its security, to ensure that forms are filled in and submitted correctly and to remember the User’s decision to accept/not accept Cookies.

Analytical (optional) 

These Cookies help us measure traffic to our site, keep track of the User’s behaviour and improve our site as a result. They inform us how it is visited, how many unique Users visit our sites, and the length and details about their visit.

  • _ga – primary Google Analytics cookie, which stores unique visitor ID - lifespan 1 year.
  • _ga_SMN2THZF66 – Google Analytics 4 tracking cookie, stores session and campaign data - lifespan 1 year.

What data we process and its legal basis

We process the Cookies listed above on our website to collect and process personal data such as IP address, MAC address, randomly generated ID, cookie and other unique identifiers, cookie settings, geolocation information (not precise, only within wider radius, i.e. 50 km and above) – data about the User’s device or browsing history, diagnostic data related to the possible crash or how the User interacts with our site, as well as data derived from them (e.g. segments). We do not process special categories of data (so called sensitive data).

The legal basis for the processing stated above is the User’s consent give via the cookie banner, with exception of functional (essential) Cookies that are necessary for the operation of the website. Thus, regarding optional purposes stated above, we process the User’s data only for the purposes for which the User has given consent within the cookie banner. The legal basis for functional Cookies, and/or the personal data we process on the basis of these Cookies, is our legitimate interest in the proper operation of our website. This legitimate interest is also expressly permitted by Section 89(3) of Act No. 127/2005 Coll., on Electronic Communications.

The User personal data will primarily be stored on servers located in member states of the European Union or European Economic area. However, some of the external processors or independent controllers – service providers used by us or other third parties in case of third party Cookies may also be located outside this area, including the United States of America or other jurisdictions. These providers have access to the data necessary for the provision of their services and primarily to data that does not directly identify the User (most often a randomly generated ID). These third parties we may engage with processing the User personal date outside EEA are contractually bound to adhere to standards that ensure a substantially similar level of data protection as in EU or are processed in countries recognised by European commission to offer and adequate level of protection.

How the User can disable Cookies

The User can always adjust the choices previously set in the cookie banner by clicking on the Cookies settings link in the footer of the website. By interacting with the cookie banner the user can modify the User’s preferences and withdraw any previously granted consent, even per specific purpose (except of functional Cookies which are essential for operation of our website).

How the User can exercise the User’s rights

The User exercises the User’s rights (including the right to object or to withdraw the consent) with the data controller, which is PragMatika. In the case of Cookies, the User primarily exercise the User’s rights through the cookie banner where the User can adjust and modify any preferences (see the description in the section “How the user can disable Cookies”).

The User’s Privacy rights

The User has the right to request access to the User’s data at any time – this means that we will provide the User, upon the User’s request, with information about what personal data we process, for what purpose, from what source the personal data was obtained and for how long it will be processed. The User has the right at any time to request the rectification of inaccurate personal data or to have it completed if it is incomplete. 

The User also has the right to request the erasure of personal data that are no longer necessary for the purpose for which they were originally collected or that the controller is no longer entitled to use for other reasons (e.g. they have been processed unlawfully, their erasure is required by law, etc.). 

The User has the right to request a restriction of the processing of the User’s personal data – this means that the User can ask us not to delete the User’s data where we would otherwise be obliged to do so, and the User can also ask us not to process the User’s personal data any further until it is clear whether the data processed is accurate or whether the User’s objection to the processing of the User’s personal data has been raised on reasonable grounds (see right to object below). 

The User has the right to the portability of the User’s personal data – this means that the User can request that we provide the User with the personal data processed by us (if it is processed by automated means) in electronic form so that it is easily transferable to another controller (service provider). This right only applies to personal data that we have obtained in electronic form on the basis of the User’s consent.

The User has the right to withdraw the given consent and to object to the processing of the User’s personal data based on our legitimate interest – in which case we will only continue to process the User’s data if it is demonstrated that there are compelling legitimate grounds for doing so.
