Elías is a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences focused on mathematical practices at the end of the 18th century and during the 19th century, as well as on the work of Bernard Bolzano. His research integrates features of the history and philosophy of mathematics, textual studies, intellectual and cultural history, history of the book, digital humanities and social studies of science. He is the author of several peer-reviewed books and articles and is currently collaborating on the edition of the unpublished mathematical volumes of the Bernard Bolzano–Gesamtausgabe.

As head of PragMatika, Elías supervises the work of all team members and collaborates with them on a number of outputs. He is responsible for the Bolzano Digital Archive and the Bernard Bolzano Collection, results that he conceives as long-term contributions to Bolzano studies.
