Steve is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Warwick and, although officially no longer part of PragMatika, he continues to collaborate with Elías and the rest of the team.

He gained his PhD in History of Mathematics from the Open University with a thesis on The Mathematical Works of Bernard Bolzano published between 1804 and 1817 and later collaborated with Meurig Beynon at Warwick in the development of “Empirical Modelling”, a novel approach to computing that embraces humanities almost as much as technical computing. He served as President of British Society for the History of Mathematics in 1995–97 and has published several works, including the major volume The Mathematical Works of Bernard Bolzano (Oxford University Press, 2004) and Bernard Bolzano, Mathematische Schriften 1804–1810 (Frommann-Holzboog, 2019), co-edited with Edgar Morscher.
